Duke Energy Settles NC Water Contamination Lawsuit

Law360, New York (July 16, 2013, 7:09 PM EDT) -- Duke Energy has reached an agreement with the state of North Carolina to address alleged violations of state water-quality statutes tied to discharge of wastewater from two coal-fired electric plants owned by company subsidiaries.

Duke Energy Progress Inc. and Duke Energy Carolinas LLC will pay more than $99,000 and end coal ash groundwater contamination at the Asheville Steam Electric Generating Plant and the Riverbend Steam Station, which is no longer operating for the production of electricity, according to the consent order reached with the North Carolina...
