EU Moves To Restrict Pesticide Over Risk To Bees

Law360, New York (July 17, 2013, 5:55 PM EDT) -- European Union member states on Tuesday backed a plan to restrict the use of Fipronil, an insecticide recently identified as posing an acute risk to Europe’s honeybee population.

The Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health’s vote followed a scientific risk assessment carried out by the European Food Safety Authority, published in May, which said that seeds treated with pesticides containing Fipronil could seriously harm bees on the continent.
