6th Circ. Nixes Voter Fraud Convictions Over Evidence Issues

Law360, New York (July 17, 2013, 4:54 PM EDT) -- The Sixth Circuit on Wednesday vacated the convictions of a former Kentucky judge and seven others tied to a vote-buying scheme, finding that a lower court unfairly allowed evidence in their trial regarding certain defendants’ involvement in illicit drug deals.

The decision reverses the 2010 convictions of ex-Clay County Circuit Court Judge Russell Cletus Maricle and others on racketeering, conspiracy to money launder and other charges connected to a scheme to rig the county’s primary and general elections, according to court documents.
