Veto Sinks RI Ban On E-Cigarette Sales To Minors

Law360, New York (July 19, 2013, 2:42 PM EDT) -- The governor of Rhode Island on Wednesday vetoed a bill that would prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors, saying he opposed language in the legislation that would make the products exempt from laws that govern the sale of tobacco products.

By defining e-cigarettes as "vapor products," the bill would put those products outside the scope of existing ID, signage and licensing requirements that currently control the sale of tobacco products to children, Gov. Lincoln Chafee said in his veto statement. He also objected to...
