8th Circ. Affirms Retaliation Verdict Against Riceland

Law360, New York (July 19, 2013, 8:02 PM EDT) -- The Eighth Circuit on Friday upheld a jury's verdict in favor of a pair of former Riceland Foods Inc. employees who claimed they were fired in retaliation for filing grievances about a supervisor's use of racially discriminatory language.

The appeals court affirmed the jury's verdict that Riceland, a farmer-owned cooperative that mills, markets and sells rice, retaliated against the two workers and its decision to award the pair each backpay and $300,000 in damages for emotional distress.
