Leaked EU Draft Policy Allows State Aid For Nuclear Power

Law360, New York (July 19, 2013, 7:57 PM EDT) -- The European Union is weighing policy changes that would allow member nations to support nuclear power projects through direct state aid, according to leaked competition committee draft documents posted online Friday.

The documents say financial support measures that encourage investment in nuclear power are in line with EU objectives, and that states should be free to help fund construction and operation costs for projects within their borders. Member states can also provide funds for treatment, management and disposal of nuclear waste under the right circumstances, according to...
