GE Settles FTC Suit Over $4.3B Avio Buy

Law360, Los Angeles (July 19, 2013, 8:10 PM EDT) -- General Electric Co. on Friday reached a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission that prevents it from interfering with Italy-based Avio SpA's development of a key engine component, resolving FTC charges that GE’s proposed $4.3 billion acquisition of Avio’s aviation business would be anti-competitive.

The settlement comes less than a month after European regulators approved GE’s $4.3 billion buy of Italian aerospace company Avio from U.K. private equity firm Cinven, saying conditions offered up by GE eased its concerns over the deal’s potential anticompetitive ramifications....
