Visa, MasterCard Rules Survive Canadian Antitrust Challenge

Law360, New York (July 23, 2013, 1:22 PM EDT) -- Canada's Competition Tribunal on Tuesday threw out the Canadian competition watchdog's challenge to the rules Visa Inc. and MasterCard Inc. apply to merchants that accept their credit cards, finding technical problems with regulator's case.

The tribunal dismissed the case lodged by Canada's Competition Bureau, which had argued that Visa Canada Corp. and MasterCard International Inc. used anti-competitive policies that drove up costs for consumers.
