McDermott Lands Ex-USPTO General Counsel's AIA Expertise

Law360, New York (July 24, 2013, 2:19 PM EDT) -- McDermott Will & Emery LLP has secured a major upgrade to its intellectual property team, hiring former U.S. Patent and Trademark Office general counsel Bernard Knight to aid in complex litigation regarding new provisions under the America Invents Act, the firm announced Wednesday.

Knight, who has been the USPTO's top lawyer since 2010, was one of the key architects of the AIA and will join McDermott's Washington office to specialize in the law's new post-grant review procedures, which offer paths to challenge the validity of a patent...
