Lamy Departs WTO, Warns Of Mounting Trade Barriers

Law360, New York (July 24, 2013, 7:05 PM EDT) -- Pascal Lamy suggested Wednesday in his farewell speech as head of the World Trade Organization that the key to reigniting the floundering Doha Round global trade talks will depend on the 159 member countries' willingness to address the proliferation of non-tariff barriers.

“The fact that non-tariff barriers are becoming the main obstacle to trade requires us to rethink the way we deal with them,” Lamy said in his final speech to the WTO's general council as the organization's director-general.
