Edwards Tells Justices To Skip CoreValve Patent Case

Law360, New York (July 25, 2013, 6:53 PM EDT) -- Edwards Lifesciences AG urged the U.S. Supreme Court last week to reject CoreValve Inc.'s appeal of a $73.9 million heart valve patent verdict, saying the Medtronic Inc. unit's claim that the patent enablement standard needs clarification is an "attempt to manufacture a crisis."

In a response brief filed July 19, Edwards derided CoreValve's argument in its May cert petition that the high court's guidance is needed "to rescue enablement" from a "doctrinal meltdown" caused by allegedly conflicting standards used by the Federal Circuit.
