Orange Faces Spanish Antitrust Fine Over Deal Notice

Law360, New York (July 26, 2013, 2:23 PM EDT) -- Spain's competition watchdog said Friday it has fined an Orange SA unit after finding the company completed an acquisition of Koninklijke KPN NV's mobile business in Spain without first properly notifying regulators about the deal.

Spain's Comision Nacional de la Competencia said in a statement it had hit France Telecom Espana SAU — Orange's business unit in Spain — with a €61,600 ($81,700) fine for failing to give proper advance notice of a December purchase of KPN's Spanish mobile business, Simyo.
