Why Fla. Has Become A Hot Spot For Patent Litigation

Law360, New York (August 7, 2013, 7:42 PM EDT) -- The staggering increase in patent filings in the Southern District of Florida has continued unabated. Patent filings have gone from 44 in 2009 to a projection of over 250 in 2013 (with nearly 150 cases being filed as of July 2013). This is an increase of over 500 percent in just four years. The number has increased so much that the number of cases filed in this district now outpaces traditionally favored patent jurisdictions such as the Northern District of California.
