EU Defends Chinese Solar Deal Against Industry Outcry

Law360, New York (July 29, 2013, 1:18 PM EDT) -- The European Union and China reached a negotiated settlement over the weekend to end a long-running dispute over imported Chinese solar panels, a deal that the bloc's top trade official defended Monday against harsh industry blowback.

EU trade chief Karel De Gucht said the agreement reached Saturday — through which some Chinese solar exporters will voluntarily keep prices above certain thresholds — sufficiently protected European industry and complied with EU law.
