EU Regulator Proposes Controls On Variable Banker Pay

Law360, New York (July 29, 2013, 5:54 PM EDT) -- The European Banking Authority on Monday released draft rules implementing greater control over how European Union financial institutions may use variable instruments to pay staff, designed to ensure such arrangements take companies’ long-term health into account.

Under the EBA's so-called regulatory technical standards, a number of restrictions will be placed on pay arrangements involving financial instruments allowing for variable payments, ensuring they properly reflect the ongoing credit quality of the issuing bank and align the interests of staff with shareholders and other stakeholders, according to the...
