Walgreen Pharmacy Customer Scores $1.4M Privacy Verdict

Law360, New York (July 29, 2013, 7:08 PM EDT) -- An Indiana jury on Friday hit Walgreen Co. with a $1.4 million verdict after one of its pharmacists admittedly exposed confidential medical records of a woman she suspected had shared a sexually transmitted disease with her husband.

The Marion County Superior Court jury said that Abigail Hinchy had suffered $1.8 million in damages after Walgreen pharmacist Audra Peterson used her position to spy on Hinchy's confidential prescription information, then disclosed Hinchy's sensitive health details to her husband.
