Sun Life Faces $30M Suit Over Denied Life Insurance Claims

Law360, Los Angeles (July 30, 2013, 2:07 PM EDT) -- Imperial Premium Finance LLC filed a $30 million breach of contract lawsuit against Sun Life Assurance Co. of Canada in Florida federal court on Monday, claiming the insurer fraudulently denied life insurance policy claims after making “unequivocal promises” it would not do so.

In a 27-page complaint, the Boca Raton, Fla.-based Imperial, which is a subsidiary of Imperial Holdings Inc., alleges that Sun Life engaged in a scheme to receive millions of dollars in premiums from policy owners while intending to renounce those policies.
