Medicare Floats 2.3% Pay Increase For Psychiatric Care

Law360, New York (July 29, 2013, 7:19 PM EDT) -- Medicare on Monday proposed a 2.3 percent pay bump for the nation’s roughly 1,600 inpatient psychiatric facilities and signaled that it was prepared after nearly a decade to update the complex factors it uses to adjust reimbursements.

The increase applies to nearly 500 freestanding psychiatric centers and roughly 1,100 hospitals with inpatient psychiatric wards, and equates to the federal government paying out an additional $115 million next year.
