Oil Co. Hit With $1.5M Fine For Well Violations

Law360, New York (July 31, 2013, 7:36 PM EDT) -- The North Dakota Industrial Commission on Tuesday hit oil and gas operator Halek Operating ND LLC with a $1.5 million fine for allegedly making salt water injections into a well without first making sure its equipment was working properly.

Halek has admitted it failed to complete a mechanical integrity test before making the salt water injections, which could harm the surrounding groundwater, according to an order filed by the NDIC.
