Boston University Hits HP, LG With Semiconductor IP Suits

Law360, New York (August 1, 2013, 5:56 PM EDT) -- The trustees of Boston University dropped nearly identical suits on Hewlett-Packard Co. and LG Electronics Inc. in Massachusetts federal court Thursday, accusing the companies of infringing a BU patent for a semiconductor device developed by one of its professors.

The trustees said Seoul, South Korea-based LG, two American LG subsidiaries and Hewlett-Packard, based in California, incorporated the university’s patented technology in laptops, tablets, lightbulbs and other products without permission.
