Duke Energy Cancels Plans For $25B Fla. Nuclear Plant

Law360, New York (August 1, 2013, 7:18 PM EDT) -- Duke Energy Corp.'s Florida unit announced Thursday that it is terminating plans to build a $24.7 billion nuclear power facility in Levy County in light of recent legislative reforms in the state and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission delaying licenses for new nuclear plants.

Duke Energy Florida Inc. said in a statement that it had based its plans to build two 1,100-megawatt nuclear units in Levy County on its initial estimate of securing a combined construction and operating license from the NRC by Jan. 1, 2014....
