Price Hikes Prompt Probe Of U.K. Energy Market

Law360, New York (February 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The United Kingdom's energy market faces scrutiny by a government committee, after critics said the industry lacks competition and enables rivals to raise prices together without secretly colluding.

The House of Commons Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Committee announced Tuesday that it had launched a full scale inquiry in response to widespread concerns over ascending energy prices, which peaked this month when four big-name providers hiked their rates within days of each other.
