Senate Confirms 2 SEC Officials, Extends Chairman's Term

Law360, New York (August 2, 2013, 12:19 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Senate voted late Thursday to confirm two new members of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and to extend new Chairman Mary Jo White’s tenure, giving the regulator added stability as it confronts a host of unfinished business.

The votes, performed by unanimous consent, install Democrat Kara Stein and Republican Michael Piwowar as SEC commissioners. Stein, formerly an aide to Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., will replace Commissioner Elisse B. Walter, while Piwowar, who served as an economist on the staff of the Senate Banking...
