NRC Launches Probe Of Covidien Unit

Law360, New York (February 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is investigating a Missouri-based maker of medical equipment after high levels of a nuclear isotope were found in generators produced by the company.

The NRC announced Wednesday that it has issued a Confirmatory Action Letter to Mallinckrodt Inc. to confirm the company's commitment to investigating high levels of molybdenum-99 found in 100 of its generators in January.

The NRC also dispatched a special inspection team to investigate the event and the company's response.
