To AMA, Obesity Is A Disease, But To ADA ...

Law360, New York (August 16, 2013, 12:30 PM EDT) -- In June 2013, the American Medical Association (AMA) declared obesity a disease. The president of the AMA gave several reasons for this declaration.[1] “[R]ecognizing obesity as a disease will help change the way the medical community tackles this complex health issue.” The AMA president emphasized that classifying obesity as a disease could encourage people to pay attention to the seriousness of obesity, increase the dialogue between patients and physicians and result in greater investments in research.
