Judge Lets $134M Prempro Verdict Stand

Law360, New York (February 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Nevada judge has nixed Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s bid for a new trial in a case that ended in a jury verdict awarding $134 million to three breast cancer sufferers allegedly sickened by the company's hormone replacements.

Judge Robert Perry of the Second Judicial District Court in Reno also rejected the company's calls to overturn the verdict, which the drug maker decried as “grossly excessive.” But the judge did agree to consider its pleas to slash the damages sum at a hearing next week.
