Indicted Texas Judge Ducks Several Abuse-Of-Office Charges

Law360, Houston (August 13, 2013, 6:50 PM EDT) -- An indicted Texas judge accused of retaliating against lawyers practicing in his court dodged several of the criminal charges leveled against him Tuesday when the trial court overseeing the case said he couldn’t be prosecuted for his judicial acts.

Visiting Judge Ryan Patrick dismissed five of 11 indictments against Galveston County Court at Law Judge Christopher Dupuy, ruling that the troubled judge enjoys absolute immunity from prosecution for issuing orders of contempt against attorneys trying cases before him and with whom he has personal conflicts....
