BOEM Gives Enviro Approval To 1st Hydrokinetic Project

Law360, New York (August 13, 2013, 3:17 PM EDT) -- The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has found no significant environmental impact that would prevent it from issuing its first-ever lease for a hydrokinetic power testing area off the Florida coast to Florida Atlantic University, BOEM announced Monday.

Florida Atlantic's Southeast National Marine Renewable Energy Center applied in August 2011 for a lease to deploy and test various experimental turbines in an effort to generate energy from the force of ocean currents.
