EPA Backs New Industry Standard For CERCLA Assessments

Law360, New York (August 15, 2013, 3:08 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday approved a new industry standard for assessing health and environmental risks of polluted sites for landowners looking to limit their Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act liability.

Prospective purchasers, owners of neighboring properties, and state, local and tribal governments that receive brownfields grants can now use ASTM International's E-1527-13 standard practice for environmental site assessments to satisfy CERCLA requirements, according to a notice published in the Federal Register.
