Coast Guard Vet Is Named To Lead Offshore Drilling Agency

Law360, New York (August 14, 2013, 7:12 PM EDT) -- The Obama administration on Wednesday tapped retired U.S. Coast Guard Vice Admiral Brian Salerno as the new director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, which regulates oil and natural gas operations on the Outer Continental Shelf.

In naming Salerno as the third director of the fledgling agency, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell is turning to another Coast Guard veteran to staff the post. The outgoing director, former Rear Admiral James Watson, is departing at the end of the month.
