6th Circ. Upholds Bic Victory In Lighter-Defect Suit

Law360, New York (August 14, 2013, 5:05 PM EDT) -- The Sixth Circuit on Wednesday stood behind a jury verdict clearing Bic USA Inc. of responsibility for a cigarette-lighter accident that severely burned a young boy, saying the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s scrutiny of the product was properly admitted as evidence at trial.

A three-judge panel upheld the verdict in a published opinion, ruling against a court-appointed conservator who sued on behalf of a three-year-old who was allegedly left with severe injuries in 2004 after he lit his clothing on fire with a BIC model...
