Detroit Unions Attack City's Bid For Bankruptcy Eligibility

Law360, New York (August 19, 2013, 7:36 PM EDT) -- Detroit’s public employee and retiree unions on Monday launched an attack on the city’s effort to convince a bankruptcy court that it is eligible for Chapter 9 protection, looking to keep their members from being forced into enormous concessions.

The Michigan Council 25 of the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO and Sub-Chapter 98, City of Detroit Retirees said in its objection that the city has not exhausted its negotiating possibilities with unions, a requirement for obtaining Chapter 9 protection under the U.S....
