Private Federal Defense Lawyers To Take Pay Cuts

Law360, New York (August 20, 2013, 1:57 PM EDT) -- A summer of fiscal pain continued for the federal judiciary Monday as the courts confirmed a plan for private federal defense lawyers to defer some pay into 2015, and take a $15 per hour emergency pay cut beginning in September.

Starting Sept. 1 and lasting though September 2014, the hourly rate for noncapital defense cases will be cut from $125 to $110 and the rate in capital cases will be cut from $179 to $164, Fourth Circuit Judge William B. Traxler Jr. told the Judicial Conference...
