UGI To Pay $1M Penalty Over Gas Leak Cover-Up

Law360, Philadelphia (August 21, 2013, 3:33 PM EDT) -- UGI Penn Natural Gas Inc. on Friday agreed to pay the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission a $1 million penalty stemming from the utility’s alleged cover-up of a 2012 gas pipeline leak in Wilkes-Barre.

The Reading, Pa.-based gas provider did not admit any fault in the incident, in which a whistleblower reported that the company allegedly discovered the leak, improperly repaired it and attempted to conceal a subsequent gas release.
