DOI, DOE To Team Up On Offshore Drilling Safety

Law360, New York (August 23, 2013, 6:41 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Department of Energy will team up to improve their oversight of the safety of offshore drilling in the wake of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster that killed 11 rig workers and spilled some 4.9 million barrels of oil, the departments said Friday.

The DOI’s Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement — the government’s top drilling safety regulator — will join forces with the DOE’s Office of Oil and Natural Gas to assess the risk of offshore drilling...
