WTO Sends US-Indonesia Clove Cigarette Row To Arbitrator

Law360, New York (August 26, 2013, 4:38 PM EDT) -- The World Trade Organization said Friday that it would send to arbitration a dispute concerning potential remedies Indonesia is seeking in retaliation over the U.S. ban on clove cigarettes.

Indonesia is seeking to suspend certain tariff concessions it provides to the U.S. in light of the country's prohibition on flavored cigarettes. The Southeast Asian country's bid for punitive measures against the U.S. comes after the WTO determined that the country's clove cigarette ban violates international trade rules.
