Ex-Fla. Rep Sues To Block Paid Sick Time Ballot Measure

Law360, Miami (August 27, 2013, 4:06 PM EDT) -- A former Florida state representative on Monday filed a suit seeking to block a paid sick leave initiative from being put on an Orange County ballot, saying a law enacted earlier this year makes the referendum moot.

Allen Trovillion, who is also a former mayor of Winter Park, Fla., said the adoption and enforcement of the ordinance proposed by the ballot measure would be illegal under the recently passed H.B. 655, which prohibits political subdivisions from requiring employers to provide employment benefits that are not required...
