Public Citizen Wants HHS To Stop Trials Over Consent Issue

Law360, New York (August 28, 2013, 6:51 PM EDT) -- Consumer group Public Citizen on Wednesday called on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to suspend clinical trials involving premature infants, in the wake of revelations that a government-funded study allegedly failed to disclose that participants were at risk of blindness or death.

The Neonatal Research Network, a group funded by the HHS' National Institutes of Health, should stop all trials involving the infants until it can ensure their parents know about the studies' risks, Public Citizen said. The group also urged the agency...
