Insurer Sues Whirlpool, Supplier Over Faulty Water Valves

Law360, Chicago (August 29, 2013, 2:07 PM EDT) -- State Auto Insurance Co. sued Whirlpool Corp. and one of its parts suppliers on Wednesday to recoup money it paid to several policyholders whose homes suffered water damage, claiming defective valves in Whirlpool appliances were to blame.

Whirlpool and Elbi of America Inc., the Houston-based company that made the valves, are responsible for property damage at five homes scattered across the country that were fitted with Whirlpool washing machines or dishwashers, according to a complaint filed in Wisconsin federal court.
