Kan. Fines 2 Out-Of-State Cos. $1M For Skirting No-Call Act

Law360, Los Angeles (August 30, 2013, 6:44 PM EDT) -- Out-of-state companies The Buzz Marketing and Communications LLC and WordSmart Corp. have been ordered to pay approximately $1 million in combined penalties and fees for violating the Kansas No-Call Act’s telemarketing rules, the Kansas attorney general announced Friday.

Springfield, Mo.-based Buzz Marketing was ordered in a default judgment to pay Kansas $952,000 in penalties for the telemarketing law violations, and Wordsmart, based in San Diego, agreed to a consent judgment ordering the company to pay the state $10,000 in penalties for its violations.
