UK Ad Watchdog Nails Tesco Horse Meat Campaign

Law360, New York (September 4, 2013, 6:00 PM EDT) -- The U.K.’s advertising watchdog on Wednesday said supermarket giant Tesco PLC misled consumers by publishing advertisements that appeared to connect the chain's problem of horse meat and other meat products commingling to other retailers.

Two complainants, one an independent butcher, had challenged whether Tesco's claim that “It’s about the whole food industry” was misleading because it implied there were issues with meat standards across the whole food industry, and unfairly denigrated food suppliers who had not been implicated in the supply of mislabeled meat products....
