BioMerieux Inks $450M Deal For Molecular Biology Co.

Law360, Los Angeles (September 4, 2013, 3:57 PM EDT) -- French in-vitro diagnostics maker bioMerieux has entered into an agreement to acquire Utah-based molecular biology company BioFire Diagnostics Inc. in a transaction worth $450 million, the companies jointly announced Tuesday.

BioFire invented, manufactures and commercializes its multiplex polymerase chain reaction FilmArray system, a molecular biology solution dedicated to the diagnosis of infectious diseases. BioFire has more than 500 employees, facilities for research and development, manufacturing and commercialization and is expected to generate $70 million in sales in 2013, according to bioMerieux.
