Fed. Circ. Backs Invalidation Of Accenture Software Patent

Law360, Los Angeles (September 5, 2013, 3:54 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit on Thursday affirmed a lower court's invalidation of an Accenture Global Services GmbH software patent in its lawsuit against rival Guidewire Software Inc., saying the asserted claims covering a program for handling insurance-related tasks don't rise above the level of abstract concepts. 

In a 2-1 decision, a panel agreed with U.S. District Judge Sue Robinson that Accenture's patent, U.S. Patent Number 7,013,284, doesn't claim any patentable technological advances.
