Va. House OKs Bill On English-Only Work Rules

Law360, New York (February 13, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Virginia House of Delegates voted 70-29 on Monday in favor of a bill establishing that it is not discriminatory for an employer to fire a worker who fails to comply with an English-only policy in the workplace.

Del. Mark Cole (R-Fredericksburg), sponsor of HB 1472, had said the legislation would help small-business owners. The bill now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
