Mass. Gov. Backs Ban On Noncompete Pacts

Law360, New York (September 11, 2013, 8:16 PM EDT) -- A top Massachusetts state official testified Tuesday that Gov. Deval Patrick now fully supports banning noncompete agreements in the state as a complement to the eventual implementation of the Uniform Trade Secret Act.

Gregory Bialecki, the state's secretary of housing and economic development, told a committee of the Massachusetts Legislature that enforceable noncompetes “stifle movement and inhibit competition,” drive away top-flight talent and leave employees with little recourse.
