Chinese Pharma Factory Not Inspected By FDA

Law360, New York (February 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Chinese factory that hadn't been inspected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration manufactured the active ingredient in a popular blood thinner that allegedly killed four people and caused allergic reactions in hundreds more, once again bringing into question the safety of drugs imported to the U.S.

Several patients who took Baxter Healthcare Corp.'s blood-thinning drug heparin experienced difficulty breathing, vomiting, excessive sweating and rapidly falling blood pressure, the FDA said.
