Acacia's DMT Patent Suffers Rare Defeat In Court

Law360, New York (December 8, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Patent holding company Acacia Research Corp. received a blow in federal court this week when several claims in its heavily-litigated Digital Media Transmission (DMT) patents were found to be indefinite.

The company’s subsidiary, Acacia Media Technology Corp., asserted the patent portfolio beginning in February 2003 against a slew of internet companies, mostly pornography sites. A second volley the following year targeted major cable providers and satellite companies.
