Fresenius Puts Up $4B For Rhoen-Klinikum Hospitals

Law360, New York (September 13, 2013, 5:01 PM EDT) -- German hospital consortium Rhoen-Klinikum AG will fundamentally restructure its portfolio by selling most of its hospitals to rival Fresenius Helios for €3.07 billion ($4.1 billion), in an effort to build an advanced, research-based hospital network, the company said Friday.

Fresenius intends to buy 43 hospitals with a total of 11,800 beds from Rhoen-Klinikum, making it the largest private hospital operator in Europe. The purchase price of €3.07 billion will be entirely debt-financed, and Fresenius expects one-time costs of about €80 million before tax.
