China Hits US Solar Cos. With Duties Over Subsidies

Law360, New York (September 16, 2013, 4:15 PM EDT) -- China said Monday it plans to level countervailing duties on solar-grade polysilicon from the U.S., a move that comes after the Asian nation announced in July that it would impose anti-dumping duties on the raw material used in solar panels.

Following an investigation that was launched in July 2012, China's Ministry of Commerce reached a preliminary conclusion that U.S. polysilicon imported to China had benefited from subsidies, which, in turn, caused damage to the Chinese solar industry, the ministry said in a Monday statement.
