U.S. Lawmakers Eye Russian Energy Project

Law360, New York (February 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Two Democratic lawmakers have asked U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to deny the U.S. Export-Import Bank’s support for a controversial energy project controlled by the Russian government, saying it is in the national interest to do so.

In a letter sent to Rice on Thursday, House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Financial Services Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy Chairman Luis V. Gutierrez (D-Ill.) expressed “serious concern” about the Export-Import Bank’s support for the project, known as Sakhalin II.
